Will
Southwest Windpower add a five blade wind turbine?
It is theoretically possible to achieve a slightly higher blade
efficiency in low wind speeds (no real power here) with five blades compared
to three blades if all else
is equal - engineered, tested and third party certified.
The aerodynamics (turbulence/flutter/back pressure /tower thump / loud
helicopter blades ) of a 5-Bladed system can not exceed 32 MPH without creating
excessive vibration effecting the shaft, bearings, and tower life. Exceeding
this speed could reduce the life of the system and create safety
concerns for residential installations.

TRUE DOWN WIND
DESIGN: Skystream's blades are made using a process called
"Compression Molding" (Not
Plastic!). This process produces a blade that is
inexpensive yet very strong. Tests indicate the blade has a 10:1
strength ratio. The purpose of the swept blade design is to
reduce a common issue with DOWN WIND (no tail) generators called
"Tower
Thump".
The blade is designed to operate efficiently and very quietly.
The Skystream
is the only "Down Wind Residential Wind Turbine" using this

NREL (U.S. Department) blade design,
