GO GREEN! Electric Power Cooperatives are GREAT! However, we just found out (September 19th, 2008), that the DSIRE web site is wrong (per the P.U.C) and if you have the power to choose providers, then you may have been injured by Texas deregulation of power companies. We are concerned that Net-Metering (spin your meter forwards and backwards at full retail rate and NET the difference in 30 days) created, to inspire advancements of clean renewable energy has been changed to Buy Back! Sounds good? Think again.

This is what we have been able to understand (again do your own research). Rather than NET results in 30 days, now the New Texas Law will use advanced meters (not power cooperatives) and provide instant flow in/ flow out. Rather than building credits on your meter (when you are over producing) the power companies can purchase your production at some ridiculous variable avoided cost (about 4-8 cents -Depending on time of day. No one knows at this point and a very confusing proof of actual cost) and then charge you a FULL fixed retail rate the very next millisecond (about .14-.21 cents). They claim this is a GOOD deal! But, no one can tell us for sure how this is actually going to work. In the interim, OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN REPORTING TO US THAT ONCOR HAS BEEN TELLING PEOPLE TO STOP THE INSTALLATION OF RESIDENTIAL WIND TURBINES! GO GREEN!

Why does Net-Metering in it's original form no longer work for retail providers (not cooperatives)? It's not the public utility set up by our grandfathers. It is now owned by private / public companies selling Kwhs' to Texas customers. Your clean energy production now reduces their earning potential, thus reducing the carbon / pollution foot print of Texas. In this new buy back program, I would not settle for anything less than 20 percent of the retail rate (including Oncor delivery fees).

Oil exceeded its record high at $76 per barrel, increasing 40 percent since last year and more than doubling over the last 5 years.

Natural gas used to heat buildings and for industrial production has quadrupled in consumption since the 1950s. Increasing demand, government deregulation, and weather conditions have created exponential price hikes. In fact, over the last 5 years, the cost of natural gas has jumped by 90 percent. Many businesses reliant on this resource have been crippled by these dramatic cost shifts.

The nation�s capacity to generate and distribute electricity has not increased in accordance with growing demand. This gap has led to power reliability problems resulting in major blackouts throughout the country.
